Stephen Allen and Stephen Riddick (aka) the “Stephens” completed a masterful run on Friday, October 28th, by claiming CSP’s 2016 Cornhole Cup. The pair earned the title by winning an intense, 10-Team double elimination tournament. They successfully navigated the bracket in an undefeated fashion. The victory was the second in a row for Stephen Riddick who won the tournament with Katie in 2015.
CSP, Inc. had ten teams, randomly selected from various departments, participating in this year’s tournament. With this being a double eliminations tournament; the games were played weekly, until the bracket reached the finals in late October. The Cup Finals consisted of the “Stephens”, in a back-and-forth match against Team Marc Gillet and Rich Yoest. The finals were a microcosm of the tournament, highlighted by skillful play, friendly banter and intense competition.
In the finals, Marc and Rich gave a spirited performance, but couldn’t overcome the skill and precision of the two Stephens. It was truly a team effort in the win. Stephen Riddick set the stage early with a few ringers. Stephen Allen then caught fire and closed out the match with a few ringers of his own. Both teams then heated up with some epic tosses and rebuttals. Ultimately, the Stephens clinched the title with a final score of 21 to 15.
In the midst of the celebration, Stephen Riddick was quoted as saying, “Stephen Allen was just incredible today. He carried me when I cooled off after a hot start. It was truly a team effort.”
The tournament was enjoyed by all participants and proved to be a great success. While professionalism is paramount in its business relationships, CSP believes that cultivating a fun environment is an important part of its corporate culture. Plus, the event served as a great platform for cross-departmental team building by randomly selecting partners from varying departments.
