On January 14th, 2020, Microsoft is ending its support of Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 OS. Let CSP, Inc guide your organization through this essential transition.
One thing that never changes is that things always change, especially when it comes to technology. On January 14th, 2020, Microsoft is ending its support of the legacy Windows 7 OS for personal computing and Windows Server 2008 OS for servers. Until now, Microsoft has maintained security patches and maintenance, but this extended support ends on January 14th, 2020.
Companies that fail to upgrade to Windows 10 or Windows Server 2019 won’t receive patches or bug fixes for those systems and may not receive support for applications built or installed on machines running on a legacy OS. Instead, a newer version is required, such as Windows Server 2019 or Windows 10.
Windows Server 2019 is Microsoft’s latest Windows NT operating system. Windows 10 is designed for personal computing and has been around since 2015. Also a Windows NT operating system, Windows 10 was an upgrade from the 8.1 version of the OS.
Maintaining legacy operating systems is a huge security vulnerability. Since Microsoft won’t be releasing routine security updates, your chances of experiencing a data breach skyrocket. Here’s why you should upgrade way before the January 14 deadline:
Generally speaking, an upgrade should work — unless your computer or server is too old. So, the first decision is whether you need to upgrade or replace the device. With the pace of technology, it’s likely that replaces their machines is the safest route. T
Visit Microsoft’s support site for information on upgrading to Windows 10.
Probably, is the short answer. Most major applications have Windows 10 versions, but you may want to check with specific vendors. The good news is that all your Microsoft applications should work seamlessly.
After January 14th, issues with Internet Explorer running on Windows 7 machines won’t be supported.
You can use your Windows 7 device, but your machine will be susceptible to viruses and other security issues. It’s advisable to upgrade your OS to avoid problems.
Perhaps you loved Windows 7 and Windows 2008, maybe you had a complicated relationship. Either way, it’s time to say goodbye and embrace the future — good, bad or ugly. As you start your new relationships with Windows 10 or 2019, be open for all the things that new technology brings:
